  1. If the numbers are for example 28 out of 35; you do:

    28/35

    =0.8 which is equal to 80%

    I hope I've helped =)

  2. a = what percent of b?

    Example:

    50 = what % of 100

    50 = 100x

    x = 50/100 = .5 = .5*100 = 50%

    100 = what % of 50

    100 = 50x

    x = 2 = 2*100 = 200%

  3. Formula is :

    Another Number

    -----------------------  X 100

    Number

    or

    ( Another number ÷ Number ) X 100

  4. All a percent really is, is a fraction of 100 ("percent" = "per hundredth").  So usually it's just a matter of dividing, then turning the decimal or fraction into a percentage.  300 would be 50% of 600, because 300/600 = 0.5 = 50%

    When I see a problem like "What percent of 30 is 12?" or "80 is what percent of 5000?", I just try to translate the words from left to right into an equation, then solve the equation.  This helps ensure that I don't make any errors by dividing the wrong way.  "What percent" becomes the variable, "is" becomes equals, and "of" means to multiply.  So "What percent of 30 is 12?" would be:

    x* 30  = 12

    This means x = 12/30 = 0.4, so the answer is 40%
