Question:

How do I fix a free standing lightweight clawfooted bath to a tiled floor? Any ideas?

There is only a small nob on the resin feet that the bath stands on. I'm worried that the bath can be pushed and dislodge the plumbing. Should I drill holes in the tiled floor to accomodate these nobs? Thanks

  1. I would have to consider the value of the tub, verses the value of the floor.  If the tub is more important, then I'd agree with drilling the holes.  If the floor is an old classic tiled floor, then

I'd use 'liquid nails' and treat the tub carefully.  What you think may be temporary can easily become permanent and the other way around too.  You may want your floor back one day, without blemish.

  2. understand you worried about tub moving-only thing is once you put holes in floor you will never be able to hide them with out major work-i would let it free stand can not see where tub would ever move without alot of force

  3. Hey Nick,

Jayeffie has a great plan, but...

If your holed are not lined up and you are having trouble anchoring it, try this.

Use tappets from an old V-8 engine as clamps. They are strong enough to hold almost anything and have a hole through the center large enough to accept a bolt. They are easily gotten from your local shade tree mechanic or junk yard.

  4. I think the first responder is correct.  You definetly want to position the tub and then put the bolts or screws into the slots in the feet, and drill thru the tile (also be sure to use a rubber or nylon washer and place it directly on the tile to prevent water from seeping into the drilled holes).  If you ever want to do something different, then the tiles with the holes can either be filled with colored caulk to match or paint the filled hole, or even replace the piece of tile (you may even want to find a couple extra pieces of tile now that match and store someplace).

If you don't secure, the tub will certainly move across a tiled surface.
