How do I fix a leak in our roof that came in around a vent pipe?

We had a storm earlier this year and suffered a ton of damage to our ceilings. We have found the leak and patched it with a ton of roof patch but the water is starting to come in again. Is roof patch only a temporary fix or did we just do it incorrectly? How would we make a permanent fix - our ceilings look awful but we have to stop the leak before we repair them.

  1. the best way.....buy a vent pipe 'boot"  get the lead ones....remove the shingles around the pipe install the boot, end the top remander inside the pipe, reinstall the shingles and ur good to go for another 25 yrs......

  2. first you need to get in the attic on a sunny day. Then have someone run a garden hose along the roof until you see water coming in. where it comes in the house can be a long long way from where the actual leak is. When you finally find whre the water is entering the house, that is where you want to start looking for daylight, and that is where you need to apply some roofing cement.

  3. This is a job for a roofing professional. Don't mess with water leaks, they are serious and gone untreated, they will destroy your house.
