I have been golfing for less than a year now. While going to the driving range to warm up for the season, i noticed that on all/most of my drives, long irons, and hybrids i had a medium to extreme slice on my swing. I can hit my short irons and on occasion the forementioned clubs straight and very well, its just the higher clubs that trouble me. How do i fix this?

if it helps, i use slazenger clubs with a nike sq 10.5 driver. I also use nike one platinum balls

  1. Either take lessons off your local PGA professional, or take 2 weeks off and then quit!?!

  2. This is impossible to determine without seeing your swing as there are a number of factors that determine ball flight.  That being said there are a few common mistakes that cause major slicing.

    1. Grip - Your grip is extremely important as it's the only part of your body in contact with the club.  Many slicers (though not all) tend to have a 'weak' grip which causes them to leave the clubhead open at impact.  This where the right hand is more on top of the club than the left (for right-handers).

    2. 'Casting' - Casting is when you release the club too early on the downsing.  This causes fat shots as well as slicing.  Make sure to hold the bend in your wrists as long as possible before impact.

    3. Ball Position - Where the ball is in relation to your body at setup is critical.  If the ball is too far forward in you stance you may catch the ball as the club is moving slightly off-line as it's headed for the follow-through.  This will put a right to left spin on the ball.

There are many other causes of slicing but again, without seeing your swing it's impossible to isolate the issue.  Get analyzed or ask your club pro.

  3. stop being so cheap and get lessons.  there is no way any of us can fix ur swing without even seeing it

  4. Heres a hint. When you grip your club(only on drives) make sure you can see two knuckles on your top hand. Also, for all your clubs, make sure you are not pushing the ball down, make sure there is limited wrist action, and your shoulders need to be hitting the ball, not your arms. Dont over grip it, but dont get loose. Also when your at the top of your swing, dont get loose. Come down hard. Also, for short irons, put the ball in your back of you  stance, long irons, up a little bit. Hyrbrids, in the middle, just past the middle, and driver up with your front foot

  5. keep the club face close after impact

  6. quick fix if you're right handed. Set up to the ball as you normally would then rotate your right hand clockwise. This will help you square the club face at impact.

  7. I have a slice and last round out a budyy said i was coming out of it  and i said??????? What he meant was if looking from above straight above and down I was opening my left shoulder towards to target in the process opening my club face and thus the slice all I have to do is keep my shoulderparrall to the target line at impact and wow what achange to my ball flight NO SLICE good luck

  8. With a slice you are coming from outside to inside on your downswing.  Try making your backswing a little flatter (more behind you than over the top)  This will cause more of an even or inside to out motion at impact.  An open clubface can also cause you to slice or push the ball....releasing early wouldnt cause a slice, that would cause mostly a pull to the left (if youre a righty) When you grip the club...there is a V formed by for thumb and index finger on your right hand, this V should point at the inside edge of your right shoulder(collar bone area) if you have your grip right.  There are a number of things that can cause a slice, fix these things and you should be getting straighter.  Note:  If youve only been playing a year, i wouldnt waste money on High end balls,  it takes skill to actually get the action out of the ball that it is designed for.  i.e. just because you buy a spin ball, doesnt mean your going to be biting on greens and stopping the ball, you still have to learn to hit it right.  Save some money and get some balls around $15-20 a dozen, not $50!

  9. Yes. I agree. Common mistake such as the method you grip your golf club, stance, downswing and upswing momentum, position of the ball and etc can cause mistake during the swing.

There are few ways you can monitor your mistake by video the way you swing and show it to your teacher or someone you admire in golf. You can not see your mistake, but other can help you.

In addition, you can buy DVD - golf swing series, refresh some of the theory that might overlook. Mastering fundamental is important for you to win the games.
