Question:

How do I fix a plastic pipe thread that has been stripped?

I was attaching a new washer hose to the plastic pipe piece that sicks about 1 inch out from the back of the washer and I stripped the plastic pipe by tightening it too much. How can I fix the plastic pipe without having to take off the back of the washer to replace the pipe - which I don't even know it that's possible?

  1. A temp. fix can be done with Elmer's glue. Just got to let it set up and cure. I said temp. fix not permanent.

I have worked on these things for a lot of years and never striped the threads out on what you say. I think you mean you cross threaded the threads and messed them up.

  2. The plastic you stripped is attached to either the hot or cold water inlet valve.  Should you rig up something to attach the hose, the hose would be subject to blowing off and flooding your home.

  3. You will have to replace the plastic piece, yes its possible and should be fairly simple.

  4. It is going to be a replacement issue with this one. The pipe must be replaced and I think it is attached to the valve. I am sure there are ways to engineer some repair but I would not want to trust this one to not fail in some way. There is just too much shaking and vibration to trust a modified joint here. Sorry but sometimes life has speedbumps.
