Question:

How do I fix a scrape on my car?

I was driving down a narrow street today, and didn't realize how close I came to a parked car. So I ended up being way too close, and the cars side mirror scraped against my car. I have a dark line now on the side of my car, and I'm wondering how I go about fixing it. The scrape is about 5 inches long, and half an inch wide. I don't want to spend a ton of money fixing the problem, and I'd like to do it on my own. Any advice is welcome!

  1. depending on how deep it is.  If it's a "rubber" type mark you can use 3m rubbing compound and a polishing pad.  cost you around 10 dollars and some elbow grease.

  2. It depends on how deep the scratch is.  if your scratch is showing your primer color  you would have to paint the scratch but if the scratch is not deep  you can wax and buff.

  3. um...paint it? I'm not a good car expert.

  4. If the scrape isn't through the paint, get some polishing compound and rub the scrape out. Be careful and don't press hard when rubbing or you will go through the clearcoat on your car. Follow with a coat of wax.
