i have a buddy that has an Amana window air conditioner. i think its a 50,000 btu. its brand new. he says that it will only get down to 78 degrees and wont cool any lower than that. its got a digital thermo on it. i told him to drill a couple holes in the bottom of the unit to get all of the water that was trapped in the bottom of it out and he did but it still wont cool past 78. what do you think is the possible cause of this?

  1. your air condtioner is defective and low on freon.

  2. If it is brand new the warranty should still be in effect. Drilling holes was wrong. The water is supposed to be picked up by the slinger blade to help cool the condenser. Tell him to turn down the thermostat by pressing the up and down button while in cool mode.

  3. if it's new. return it. If it is new to him it may need the coils cleaned out with an air compresser and clean the filter or may need more gas in it. Clean it good first.

  4. look at Amana window air conditioner book in the box it can help fix look the for a phone number

  5. He drilled holes on your advise, now the warranty is void. The unit has been modified. Read the warranty!

  6. low on freon
