Question:

How do I fix my phone jacks from the NID level?

Verizon FIOS just replaced my outside NID box as well as inside battery backup box. Now my phone jacks do not work. I have Vonage, so Verizon will not come fix their mistake, even though my phone jacks worked just fine before they replaced the NID. The phone does not work at the NID outside, which I've tested. It's a newer style NID box, with 4 phone connections each having a T (Green) & R (Red) (There are no phone like plugs connected in these 4 connections, nor are there any wires connected in the T & R). There are wires twisted together being Blue & White, Green & White, Orange and White that are not connected to the NID but look like they're coming from the inside of the house, and then twisted within the NID box. Any suggestions as to which color should go where, or what I need to do to make the phone jacks work?

Thanks!!

  2. Dachshunds4You ... Have you contacted Vonage or have you checked their web site's FAQ page for help with this?

    I think you can consider your old phone jacks as "dead."  Furthermore, I wouldn't mess around with the new NID.  This sounds like a much more complicated affair than the old voice line NIDs.

    If you can't immediately figure out how to interface your Vonage phones with your new Internet connectivity, consider using Skype temporarily.

  3. first, I would be on the phone to your Public Utlilities Commission, a state agency, the consumer watchdog.

    Tip is green

    Red is ring

    Tip is white

    Ring is colored

    L1 = blue

    L2 = orange

    L3 = green

    L4 = brown

    L5 = slate

    from the underground cable, connect L1 (white/blue blue/white) pair to the NIC/demarc. The demarc then has customer accessable bridge so you can lift the customer side away from the CO side.

    hope this helps. email me direct and I can walk you thru it.
