Question:

How do I fix my phone?

Recently, the phone has only been ringing once (not even a full ring, more like a one brief chirp) and then going silent every time someone calls. When I talk to these people later on my cellphone, they say that they just thought I didn't pick up... This applies to all phones in the house. How do I fix this?

  1. Sounds like a NID problem, you will need to call the phone company.

  2. have a look at the ren number of your phone, an analogue line can only handle a total of 4 before it starts to go wrong. try taking a couple of phones out of there sockets and test the ringing. most phones have a ren of 1 so if you have have more than 4 then you need to cut back

  3. I think that you need to change your ringtone. I know that there is one ringtone on my phone which is called "Beep once."  Your phone is probably on that ringtone. Change it back to the original ringtone.

  4. This is caused by trouble on the line either inside or outside. To isolate, disconnect inside wiring at the NID. A hard short or ring ground on the line will cause these problems. The equipment in the TELCO Central office interprets the trouble on the line as the call being answered, thus the short ring.
