How do I fix my well pump problem?

I just replaced the pressure switch on the pump. I turned the breaker back on, and then turned the sprinkler system to "on", but nothing happens. What should I do next?

  1. The question should be why did the contacts burn off(winding or cap problem).Have you checked to see if pump is turning?Did you prime the pump(if necessary)?

  2. Please add some more info... Do you have water to the home, Why did you replace the pressure switch? ETC>>>>>>

You need to make sure your getting power to the pump.  If you have one; make sure you turned the main water shut off valve back on. Are there any water filter/screens near the connection to the irrigation? Sometimes when a well is turned on and off it can kick up allot of sediment which gets pick up, clogs filters.

Did you replace the pressure switch with the proper setting?

  3. I read all your details and answers from people. Quit trying to figure it out and get a new pump.

  4. sounds to me as if you have a loose connection on the back of the pump motor .turn power off ,remove the two plate s***w and check .bet you will find the problem there .otherwise the breaker ,providing that it is working properly would trip when you turned the system on......................................... to answer how to check that motor is turning ,once you have removed the back plate you will see the shaft sticking out from the center. it has a slot for a large screwdriver in it ,if you can turn it then the motor is not seized.....................note...the connections of the pressure switch are as follows ,there are 4 s***w connections the 2 CENTER screws go TOO the motor ,and the 2 OUTER screws are FROM the power source.should look ,from . ..................CHECK FOR POWER AT THE OUTLET that you have unpluged from.take the radio and either bend the plug of it wide enough to reach the two center screws of the pressure switch ,or if they wont reach hook a piece of wire in each of the holes of the radio plug ,or cut the plug off and use the bare wires ,care fulll though ,remember it is 220 volt and the radio is 110 volt ,so be quick about it. even though i think your pump may be wired 110 ,and if not it might be when you are done! as if need be a starite can be modified to 110 v pretty easily.................AS for the advice from THE MONKY PIG. it would not be a bad idea to replace the 8 year old pump ,IF it were a home depot special plastic modle ,however,a STARITE pump is top of the line and should give you 20 years of service. buy a new one ,if you choose to ,and then come back ,and ask why the new one doesnt work.IT IS A PROBLEM IN THE ELECTRIC SUPLY. where is what i am trying to help you with...............to prime ,remove the atr tank SLLOOWWWWLLLLYYYY ,and fill the pump with water. check the fitting that goes into the suction side of the pump to see if it is loose by moving the whole pump allitle to see if the threads are loose ,as it may have gotten hot and you would be sucking air ,and it will not pump water.............as for the presure switch ,take it back and ask if a PUMP START RELAY would be better for you. providing your timer has a MV,or pump terminal. ........................................... i do not usualy do this ,however i am making an exeption.   go to http://www.thebowlsters.com  and call the number and have whoever answers your call ,with the code ' q and a' ,as i will advise my staff to release my personal phone number to you. and walk you through this free of charge. p.s make sure you state KEVIN. otherwise they will not believe you........................................ Monky Pig MUST BOW TO CAPTAIN SPAULDING..

  5. Did you lose power? check and see

  6. is this a jet pump or a submersible ?

Wouldn't you hear the pump ?i mean it is a water pump they aren't quiet . if the motor is running and it is not pumping water you have a few things to check for , if nothing happens and you checked for power at the pressure switch  and you have power there than you a few other options

as you have checked all the obvious i would say you need a new capacitor  , it is the long usually black cylindrical looking thing on the end on the pump motor under a cover. two wires generally clip onto this , easy change out and they are about 12 dollars or so . i left a link with some info below

  7. Check the breaker that the pump gets power from.

Use a volt meter to check voltage on both sides of the pressure switch, look to see which wires have the incoming electricity and make sure you have 230v there then the wires to the pump.

If you have voltage on both when power on and activated the pump might be the problem.  It could also be the start capacitor.

  8. Did the pressure switch turn on the pump?
