Question:

How do I fix pincushion issues on a Sanyo PLV-Z2000?

I just went out and bought a Sanyo PLV-Z2000 and mounted it on the ceiling of my room. I hooked my high-def satellite box into the HDMI port and all looks well, however, there is a pincushion effect like on a PC monitor on the screen - it looks as if the picture is being pushed in towards the top. Also, I noticed that the screen's bottom seems to move uphill towards the right. I've looked through the manual and settings, to find no answer.

Anyone have any ideas?

  1. I'm not sure what you mean by pin cushion effect but the pushing in toward the top sounds like the keystone correction needs to be adjusted. I'm not familiar enough with this projector to tell you how to do it but it's usually in one of the menu option. Check tha manual under keystone and I'm sure it will explain it. The only way to avoid using the keystone is to set the projector level with the center of the screen which is not how you want to mount it.

  2. Before blaming the display consider whether you have the projector properly mounted.

If the image is not centred correctly or perpendicular to the screen it will do what you describe. For example if the projectro is tipped down to hit the screen (i.e. not horizontal) the image will be narrower at the top, and if slightly off centre as well it may give you a skewed bottom edge. While keystone adjustments can correct it, you may actually degrade the image unequally somewhat due to the need to scale the image during correction. It's always best to avoid using keystone.

Maybe you have aimed the projector based on default settings, but should have used the lens offset adjustments.

Hope this gives you some ideas.
