Question:

How do I fix the blue screen of death?

The computer at work had a gazillion virus's on it. After removing them the computer now pops up with the blue screen of death every 5 minutes. Different errors each time (eg. BAD?_POOL_HEADER, IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL etc). Honestly the errors change every time it pops up. All it takes is pressing enter and it goes back to the Desktop no worries. I repaired the Window installation but it didn't do a thing. Can anyone help get rid of the BSOD without a reformat?

  1. Unfortunately, you can't get rid of that blue ugly screen. What you need to do is get a new hardrive for your computer and reinstall windows xp.. That's the only solution.

  2. Try running a program that repairs your Registry. Most internet security programs do this for you. Or download one from the internet and repair it that way.

  3. Could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software. This  problem can be solved by uninstalling new softwares, updating device drivers and making minor configuration changes . From http://fixit.in/bluescreenofdeath.html . You can also run a free registry scan using utilities from http://re7.info

  4. Honestly,

if you have a virus, the best thing is to reformat.

You could try system restore but that could only be temporary.

    Viruses are getting smarter.

    SO REFORMAT ASAP.

  5. What you are getting are OS error messages. I'm sure if you search it in MS database on website, you will find a soln. But each time a different error message? Have yo installed any new H/W or S/W? That could be one cause. Also have you moved the system? Sometimes vibrations caused by dragging or dropping may cause loose connections..But again, that should not be cured by pressing enter. If the computer has had a "gazzilion" viruses, I'd go for a system recovery, but make sure that the steps are as follows:

    1) Format & recover the system.

    2) Install a good AV BEFORE you plug internet in.

    3) Update AV the FIRST thing when you go online.

    4) Enable windows Updates so that your computer has all the available patches. In fact I'd say after updating AV, go to windowsupdates.com & get ALL the updates.

    5) Now get a good Firewall if you  have a always on internet connection.

    6) Get some good Anti Spyware/Malware too, SPybot "Search & Destroy" & "Ad-Aware" are what I use, they are good & they come free. Also get something like McAfee's Siteadvisor, which warns you which sites are knows sites for sending spyware/malware/spammers.

If you do not have Windows XP recovery CD and your Computer vendor won't send you one, Use Linux. Its easy to install, has no viruses & is almost as intuitive as windows + you have all the user help groups.

    Best of Luck Mate!!
