How do I fix the key on a music box that was wound up to tight?

A daughter got her hands on some of my favorite music boxes and wound them up so tight that they dont work anymore? Is there I way I can fix it?

If you can open them up to get to the works, sometimes you can release some pressure on the spring by spinning the governor by hand.  If you can get it going you might be able to put some pressure on the drum to keep it going for awhile.  Be patient but don't be surprised if you can't fix them.  She might have broken the spring.
