It wont flush. Everytime I try to flush it the water in the bowl rises a little bit. It keeps making a noise and it has been doing this for a week. Its kind of a simmering sound and it does that 24/7.

  1. It could be the the chain from the handle to the flapper on the bottom of the tank has slipped a little. So when you do flush, it just is barely able to pick the flapper up and letting just enough water by to open the valve that re-fills the tank. That is where I would start anyway. There should be little to no slack in chain. Hope this helps.

  2. Take the lid off the tank and see how much water is there when it is not trying to flush.  Or shut off  It should be about 3" from the top of the tank.  See if the float ball arm is bent down if the water level is low.  Turn the ball stem untill it is at the right hight to  give you a full tank of water.

This is only a guess, but it sounds like you arn't getting enough water to make a proper flush.  Please remember me when you are choosing your best answer, good luck and thank you.

  3. OK i gather it is not clogged right? it just wont flush? have you looked in the tank? the simmering sound might be the bowl fill line splashing in the overflow. and the chain might not be hooked to the flapper. open the tank, push the handle and see what happens. the chain on the handle should lift a rubber flapper on the bottom of the tank, this is where the water enters the bowl. make sure it is hooked up. next check the float mechanism. when the water goes out the float goes down and turns the water on. sometimes the valve can leak or a small tube that comes off the top of the valve Assembly comes loose from its bracket that is supposed to hold it in the overflow spout. this water is meant to make sure the bowl refills with standing water. check all of that and let us know.

  4. try this: get a bucket (pail) ,, fill it with water,,stand over the toilet,, hold the bucket about 3 feet over the toilet,,pour the water into the toilet.

the force of the falling water should flush the toilet.

do this a couple of times.

now flush the toilet normallly and see waht happens.

Now if there is an obstruction in there like a comb, or a toothbrush this will not clear it out, and the same problem will reappear ,but you will at least know where you stand. the only solution for the toohbrush is to remove the toilet from thefloor and physically   clear it.
