How do I float???

I want to join the swim team, but I don't know how to float!

A few summers ago, I took about 3 swimming classes and I failed to float; i sunk in the middle of the pool for my Swimming Exam... Sad, right?

Yeah.

I know you can't tell me the "way" of floating, but any tips?

I am 110 pounds, 5 foot 3 inches, and 20 yrs. old.

  1. What I did was just focus on trying to raise my hips out of the water. Of course that wasn't possible, but trying to do that helped me float. Try pushing your belly button up above the water and everything else should come naturally. If you're having a hard time picturing what I'm telling you to do, or if the technique still isn't working lie flat on the floor and push your lower stomach (your belly button) towards the ceiling without moving any other part of your body. There should be a small space between you and the floor. This is basically the complete opposite of trying to push your lower back into the floor and having a flat back.

    Keep doing this until you get the hang of it and then just do this same technique, but in the water.
