How do I flush the motor of a 25HP mercury engine, I am a first time boat owner.?

  1. Go to your marine dealer and buy a pair of ear muffs(he will know what they are)put them on the lower unit, hook your hose to it, turn on the water, start the motor and let it run for a few minutes and that is it. Pretty simple.


  2. Go to your nearest marina or marine supply store and purchase a set of universal flusher "muffs" which enable you to attach a garden hose to your fresh water intake grates located above the prop shaft.  Overton's mail order item number is 21724.  You can see it at the following link.

    When you get the flusher "muff" described above,  attach agarden hose to it and slide it over the water intake grates in your lower unit.  Turn the hose on and run the motor for at least 5 minutes.  Make sure that the "muffs " do not slip off of the intake grates while the motor is running .
