How do I format an unformattable 4GB MicroSD card?

Anytime I put my MicroSD card into my SD adapter and then into my computer my computer does not load it or recognize it in any way. Anytime i put the card into my LG Shine it shows that there is several million bytes available...yet whenever i put it into my old SLVR7 and it prompts me to format the card it will not go through with the process. It always says "failure to format. Try Again?" I tried to put the card adapter into my friends computer and it did NOT work there either. There was one instance where my computer did accept it as a removable drive but then when i clicked on the FORMAT option it said that it was "Unrecognized/Unformattable" HOW CAN I GET THIS THING TO WORK??? Please help if you can. Thanks

  1. You have a bad card. MMCs and SD cards are very easily broken. I had two of them before. They are extra faulty if capacity is high, in this case 4GB!

Alternative reason maybe that the LG Shine uses a file format not recognize by windows or MAC, not very sure about it. You said it is visible in LG shine and nothing else. So may be a reason.

  2. Most likely the phone that doesn't read it and the SD card reader can read "SD" cards but not the "SDHC" that a 4G card will be. All SD cards 4G and above are SDHC, and a plain SD card reader will not read this card.

Buy an SDHC reader, and get a smaller (up to 2G) card to use on the odler phone that can't read the 4G one.

  3. sounds like you might have a faulty memory card.  try format it use your LG Shine... then see if your computer can read it.
