How do I furnish AND decorate my new house in Phoenix, Arizona under $500? I can't afford to ship. Thanks

So far I have a small bed and desk for the dorm I was supposed to stay at, but now I'm renting a house! I need to completey furnish this place--I need dressers, kichen tables and chairs, a full-length mirror, a nightstand, a couch, a TV stand or entertainment center, and wall decor. If it's possible to spend less than $500 and still get a larger bed, that would be ideal.

I'm moving out for the first time (well other than staying at a friend's apartment for a month), and I just don't know where to find the bargains. I can't afford to ship, and I'd like to see the stuff before I buy it.

Thanks for your help!

  1. Thrift Stores (Good Will for example).

    Garage Sales

    Moving Sales

Newspaper Ads....some are even free if you PU.

  2. Wow, I haven't met anyone else familiar with eMoneyBay. That's crazy. Well, I can say along with Amyi that it's freakin awesome. I'm a big fan of thrift shopping and have been looking to new stores this summer before moving into my new place downtown. The nice thing about this place is that, unlike Goodwill, there's just loads of cheap furniture all in one place. Some of it's not so hot, but there are some seriously great finds. (I don't know what your style is like, but I'm really into retro vintage and they have some really fun couches and dressers I picked up.) You can check out some of their stuff on eBay before you head over if you wanna look before making the trip. Just search e-m-bay in sellers. It seems they don't post everything they have but you'll get a good idea, anyway. Have fun and good luck in your new house!

  3. flea markets and garage sales.

  4. Thrift stores are fun . Try good will, habitat for humanity, yard sales

  5. Get access to a computer and go to Craigslist your city and state.

The have a section that says free, you may find something there.

Browse through all their categories and you can occasionally find some good condition thins cheap. The only down side is if it is a large item then you will need to get a truck. Good Luck

  6. Check out thrift stores, bargain bins, and the newspaper.

My mom goes to this Goodwill consignment place called EMoneyBay. It's a giant thrift store that we found on Ebay (e-m-bay). They have a giant warehouse on 33rd Ave. and Thomas with tons of furniture, hutches, lamps, vases, decorations, diningware, and even paintings. If you go to their warehouse though, you don't have to go through the bidding wars, and they give you really good off the floor deals. I'm actually furnishing my first condo and planning a wedding, so I know how you feel. I've gotten a hutch, dresser, bed frame, and office desk so far, and for the wedding I've gotten candles and cake stands. I got the furniture for $52 after tax, and the candles and cake stands were $15.

Also, check out IKEA off the 1-10 and Warner for stuff you want new. I'm getting all my sheets and pillows from there.

Um...I'll probably start hitting Wallmart if I have anything leftover that I need. :-(

It is possible to get a really good bargain if you work at it. I plan on furnishing my condo for around $1,000, but if I did it all at the warehouse, I think I could do it for under $500. Good luck!

  7. Hit the garage sales, resale shops and Goodwill.  You will be suprised at the bargins you will find.  Don't be afraid to buy somthing that might look "ugly" just take it home and paint it and make it "unique"
