Question:

How do I gain dual citizenship from Mexico and the US?

My father was born in Mexico and my mother in Texas. I would like to buy property in Mexico and eventually retire there. I know that it is easier for a citizen to buy property and so on so I would really like to know what I would have to do in order to obtain dual citizenship in the United States and in Mexico.

Thanks!

  1. Docar is right!

You are either a Mexican or an American!

    Mexico, got to love it.

Sure wish a lot more would want to go back!

  2. its actually fairly simple so long as your dad or you have all the paperwork required, By law you are a natural born Mexican citizen, thus all you need to do is go to the nearest Mexican Consulate, (theres tons of them in TX, usually in major cities) and ask for your first Mexican Passport once you have that, Bienvenida a Casa :)

and you are right is a lot easier to own property in Mexico if you are a citizen BUT that does not mean you HAVE TO BE more than anything is the fact that you are free to go up and down as much for as long as you wish

    EDIT

the most important thing i almost forgot, you need your birth certificate, his passport or Mexican ID and belive you birth certificate needs to be translated but if its a texas birthcertificate it may be enough as it

  3. You can not be a dual Mexican and US citizen as the Mexican government does not allow Dual citizenship. You can be a US citizen and a Mexican National if that would help.

  4. Pretty simple. My father wanted my brother and I to be granted Mexican Citizenship because he has property in Zacatecas. We just visited our local consulate office, filled out paperwork, had witnesses present, and we were given citizenship.
