Question:

How do I gain my ballet foundation back?

I started taking classical ballet and modern jazz at the age of 6 and stopped at the age of 8, and now I'm 13, and I honestly regret quitting ballet for the past 5 years, and I'm now trying to start over by taking classes again, but my mother said that it's already too late for me to try because it's complicated to learn ballet when you're older and when you have already lost your ballet foundation, So now I'm wondering if there is any way ever that I could gain my ballet foundation back?

I know this is a very odd question to ask over the internet, but I'm really desperate to learn ballet again.

Thank you for reading.

  1. I started when i was about 12 & it wasnt too hard to learn. However I was stuck in a class with little kids so I had to progress slower but it was kinda easy.

I quit ballet two years later because I wanted to do other dances.

I can still do all the ballet moves I learned in the past so it shouldnt be too hard to pick it up if you remember some stuff.

Anyone can start dance at any age. There is a program for adults at my studio & Ive seen them in beginner ballet.

  2. That is completely wrong! Yes you may have missed 5 years but now you are more mature and your muscles are stronger. All you need to do is exercise them and it will come. Practice practice practice and don't give up because I have seen amazing dancers who are in their early twenties yet they only started ballet in their late teens. Age doesn't really matter it is more on your determination and ability. Good luck!

  3. Your mum is wrong, there's a women at my dance school who only started 2 years ago and shes already in the advanced class and on pointe which is amazing all you need to do is focus and practice, there is no minimum age for ballet its just easier to start early.

  4. yes you can still learn ballet again. we have many adults in our area who are as old as 50 something just starting lessons. its never to late to learn.

and if you have already had a tiny bit of ballet training...then you've probably already got some of the basics down which will help you with other things.

  5. Well your mom is very wrong indeed. I started dance when I was very little, but then quit. Then after several years off I came back to dance at the age of 11, but didn't start ballet until just last year. You can start or restart dance whenever you want!!

If you are looking to get back into the swing of things you should first start by stretching everyday for at least 30 minutes. Then start by doing things you remember, such as positions, leaps, kicks, etc. If you really don't remember much at all, go onto Youtube.com and watch some ballet videos. Though they may not help you learn more, they may refresh your memory.

    Good luck!!

  6. Your mom is wrong about that. To gain that foundation back you want, make sure you eat healthy, exercise, stretch, and do moves you remember.

Stretches that are common are: The butterfly, floor crunch, medicine ball crunch, putting one foot in front of the other, then bend down, etc.

Common moves you can easily do: Leaps, jumps, spins, twirls. arm movements, sharp and clear moves, etc.

    Good luck!!
