  1. 20 sec off that will take a bit. core workout. lower back and abs. work on form and stride.

work hard, if possible stay off of concrete and other hard surfaces they are terrible on the shins

    good luck

  2. I ran the 800m for a meet a week ago:) My time was 2:36.75 on F.A.T.(fully automatic timing). I rarely run 800s because I'm primarily a sprinter/hurdler, but I think I can help you here. Everyone paces oneself differently. If you're allowed to cut in right after the gun goes off, make sure you get a good start; don't let anyone elbow you in an attempt to push you back. If anything, elbow others:) Start out at a fast jog, and take it up a notch after the 200 mark. After your first 400, just hang in there; try not to slow down. When you come to your last straightaway, give it all you've got left. There's no one way to run for everybody; each person has his/her strengths and weaknesses. As for the shin splints, I'd suggest icing your shins 2-3 times a day for about 20-30 minutes each time. Good luck with your race!:)

  3. A 20 second improvement on the 800 will be a really good accomplishment, and let the shin splints help first before you do anymore distance/sprint work. 800 is a half distance/half sprint race, so you should alternate training between the two.

  4. im sorry i know how you feel. i have the same and what i do is i tape them up and ice ice ice! that is the best that we can hope for. the best way to run a 2:40 800 is to run the first lap in a 77 and then come back the second lap in a 83 ^_^ just stick in there!

  5. parctice hard :) sorry thats no help but i run right in that area too. good luck
