I'm planning to move and live in germany. Planning to open a barber shop. Anyone know the process or have ideas on how to get a barber license or open a small business in Germany? I have a barber license here in the U.S. already, is it possible to use it in Germany? Or do I have to start over, like attend their school and take their state exams.

  1. Simone could be right about working at a military post. You would be able to go with your US license, but I'm not sure about having to be married to a military person.

Military baber shope are run by AAFES...visit www.aafes.com to see if you could get hired for an overseas barber shop.

    Good luck

  2. there is no such thing in germany as a barber shop or a barber license.a male beaution is called a "friseur" in germany, they learn many more skills then just cutting hair with clippers. it's simply the beautyshops for either men or women. they learn 3 years in germany(work in a salon and school at the same time) , and to b able to open ur own"beautyshop"(friseurladen/salon) in germany u have to become a "friseur meister". u could get a work permit and cut hair in a military babershop on any military installation , but for that u would have to b a military spouse , or b sponsored by a military member.

  3. You can´t just open a barber shop in Germany. There really is no such thing as a barber shop here...most all hair-cutting establishments are unisex. German hygiene standards are very strict. You would have to do the entire studies program (probably 3 years) just to even be allowed to work in the field..to open you own shop you would have to be a Master (Meister) and that takes a long time with exams and work experience.
