  2. You need to get right settings before burning...

    I don't know which burner software you use. I use wondershare DVD burner, It burn video to DVD directly, and the burned DVD could be played on DVD player very well.

  3. Sounds like you have an older model player ( 4 years or older ). Many inexpensive brands cannot read some formats of burned disks.  You may need to replace the player with a new unit that shows on its box that it reads all formats ( R-, R+, RW, etc.  These formats will be able to be read by most new players.
