Question:

How do I get a cat out of my room?

About a month ago I took in a 5 year old calico, who was my friend's previously. Clearly she has been abused at times and when she was a kitten. We have another cat so I kept her in my room for two weeks or so, then began to keep the door open, thinking she would explore on her own.

I was wrong, she'll sometimes sit outside my door, waiting for me to return, but has not explored the house and meows when I take her into another room. She has met my other cat, but they seem rather indifferent to each other. I've tried giving her treats when she comes out but it doesn't do much good.

I'm desperate. Any ideas?

  1. try carrying her out of your room no matter what she wants.  put her in a far room from yours and shut the door to your room behind you so she can't get back in and is forced to explore.  she mat not want to go at all but you have to get her to go everywhere else.  shut her in one room at a time (with you in there too) and have her explore that room then keep moving on to other places.  it might take a while but i'd hope it would work.  if you absolutely didn't want her to go back into your room then you should sprinkle black pepper outside your door and the cats (and dogs) won't cross that line because they hate the smell and taste.  it might take a while before you can get her to go off on her own but hopefully that'll work

  2. shut the door after taking her out, don't let her back in for a couple hours, it may be annoying but you'll have to!  do this every day till she gets used to it

  3. dont let her in and get her comfy with catnip

  4. take the cat in another room then shut the dorr and stay in with her and pet her and let her no that its ok then maybe it will roam around that room, then slowly open the door and see if she still runs to ur room..good luck = D

  5. try shutting her in a different room, or moving the food, litter box and water to the other side of the house, that way she has to  move around the house in order to get what she needs.  it could be that she doesn't feel safe in the other rooms, so try introducing her to them one by one, taking her in there, moving the food in there, and playing with and petting her in there so that she can get used to moving around.
