How do I get a copy of my mother's death certificate from England?

I went for a citizenship interview yesterday and was surprised to find out that I actually became a U.S. citizen over 30 years ago when my father became a citizen. So we have thought all these years that since I didn't go with him to an oath ceremony, I didn't have citizenship. I need a Certificate of Citizenship in order to get a U.S. passport and one of the documents required is a copy of my mom's death certificate to prove that my father was my only guardian when he became a U.S. citizen. If anyone can tell me where to start, what department to contact, or any other info that might be helpful, I would greatly appreciate it.

  1. Do you know which town/area she was living in when she died?  Because her death should have been registered with the local Registrars Office - they will have all records of Births Marraiges and Deaths in the locality and can provide you with a copy.

  2. Hi it quite simple just use this link

    http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certif...

you may need to know the local registry office where the death was registered but i think that link will be all you need

  3. It would be easier if you know the town she died and where her death was registered.  If this is the case, you can contact the registrar at the town's register office and obtain a copy.  If you do not know the information, then contact Somerset House, London - it will have a web page and links - they can locate her death if you have enough data eg dob, etc, which your father should have.  Good luck.
