  1. Apply for a student card from any of the major carriers.

  2. Seems you've recently turned 18...the funny thing with credit is you have to have it to get it. If you were to just apply to Visa or Mastercard you'd get declined on the basis that you haven't a credit history and/or credit score.

Start with getting a bank chequing account. Then get a secured card (which if you have no income you'll have to). You can apply for a student card/secured with your local bank or with Capital One www.capitalone.com.

You'll have to give them the same amount $1 for $1 as your credit limit up to $750.

Whatever you do don't use more than 25% or your available credit limit and ALWAYS pay on TIME...it's best to pay the full balance but if you can't ALWAYS pay the minimum.

Within 6 months you'll have established a positive re-payment history and your score will start moving on up.

After about a year you can apply for an unsecured card. Bear in mind since you're young and not likely to have great income...you're limits will be low...just get your credit established and the rest will come

  3. If you have a bank account, the easiest way to get a credit card would be to go to your local branch and see if they have an offer to help you build your credit. If not, you'll find a variety of options online. Here's some offers you may qualify for: http://www.asapcreditcard.com/poor-credi...

Since this will be your first credit card, you can expect to receive a higher interest rate and low credit limit. You'll also probably have to pay some additional fees. Just keep in mind that after you build up your credit score and establish some credit history, you should be able to qualify for better offers with less fees and lower interest. But for now, you still have to prove your credit worthiness before receiving more favorable terms...

  4. Go on-line and Google "credit cards", there will be a list of those who will give you the card. The amount you can charge may be small, but at least it will give you a start. Then you can go to the other cards on-line and chose what you would like. I would say wait about 6 months of payments and then apply for credit again. Also, local department stores are a good place to start. Oh, and also, if after 6 months you have paid on time with the smaller account, call and they will increase your line of credit with them.
