How do I get a gym badge?

I just got this game and I'm having trouble getting started. Its my first Pokemon game. Where do I find the gyms?

Gyms are usually one of the biggest buildings in each city.

To get the badges, just work your way through the gym to the gym leader, and beat them in a battle.

They will give you the badge for that gym.

u have to beat gym leaders in towns or cities the gym has a gold roof

Well, depends on what game you're playing.

If you're playing- Red, Blue, Yellow, FireRed, or LeafGreen-

The first gym will be located in Pewter City.

You have to go north of Viridian City and past the Virirdian Forest to get there.

If you're playing- Gold, Silver, or Crystal-

The first gym is in Violet City.

To get there, you need to go north of Cherrygrove. Go as far north as you can go, then go west.

If you're playing- Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald-

The first gym is in Rustoro City

Go west of Petalburg, then past the Petalburg Forest. keppe going north, and you'll reach Rustboro.

If you're playing- Diamond or Pearl-

The first gym is in Oreburgh City.

Once you reach Jubilife City, (north of Sandgem) go east, past a tunnel, and you'll be in Oreburgh.
