Question:

How do I get a hair dye stain out of my comforter?

The comforter is gold and pearl pink so I can't bleach it. It's made of a synthetic material. I got reddish brown hair dye on it and don't know what to try.

  1. Try this trick and you will award me TEN POINTS!

Even if something has been dried in the dryer this works for me!

Put 1/2 to 1 cup lemon ammonia in a ten gallon bucket or your laundry sink. Soak the stained item for twenty-four hours. Apply straight grease fighting dish soap, I like the bleach alternative ones that are clear. Turn the item over on a hard surface like the washing machine lid, and use a soft scrub brush on the BACK SIDE of the stain.

Four more of my favorite remedies are Formula 409, Whink Rust remover, Goop, and Mary Ellen's stain remover for colored fabrics.

    I've never found a stain that I can't remove!

  2. You might try peroxide especially if you can find a strong one. But anything that takes out hair dye may well take out fabric dye too. Are you sure you can't bleach it? Synthetics are often okay to bleach. Check the label.

  3. That's a tough one...it might not come all the way out.  I'd get a really good spot remover and test it on a small part of the comforter first to make sure it won't ruin it.  Then I'd soak the stain in it and see if that works.

    Good luck!
