Its very  difficuly as most companies allready want drivers which allready can drive trains.

Some private railways will train you on steam and diesels but cost you loads.. Within  the national rail system I suggest you best chance is London Underground..do 5 years or so with them (Even there you may have tobe a cleaner first)  and then think about overground rail ...applications

Most 'overground' companies want drivers. As another answer has said, you need to look at each companies web site and then look under 'recruitment'. In the old day engine driving was only attained by working up through the grades, starting probably as a cleaner. Nowadays there is direct recruitment into the driving grade.
