How do I get a job as a writer/producer in L.A. without contacts?

I'm a news producer in Texas but I really want to work in TV as a producer and a writer in L.A.... (specifically for a scripted television show). I haven't been able to make any L.A. contacts here in Texas. I'm open to all suggestions.

The only advice I can give you is to put yourself out there. You have to meet new people, befriend a few writers for different companise and meet some of the companies that you are hoping to work with. Set up interviews and attend script writing classes. I hope this helps.
