Question:

How do I get a job at 16 years old?

I turned 16 a month ago and since then I've applied to about 30 places that hire 16 year olds and are looking for employees. None of them have contacted me...and I really need a job because I need the money. I've done a lot of volunteer work and added that to my applications. I've tried everything and even places like Jewel and Walmart didnt accept me and I have friends there who tried to help. So I really need a job, is there anything I can do or add to my applications so that I get hired?

  1. OMG i know getting a job is so frickin hard!!

I FINALLY got one (because the place is kinda new) that will actually be fun

ive been soo picky! I've learned the hard way that you can't be too picky about your first job. Walk into a couple McDonald's or fast food, and you'll get the job quick.

I feel like I've applied to a bajillion places (maybe around 40 since i've applied more than once at some places lol). 5 called back. I only liked 2 of them. It was AMC Theaters (try that) and Panera

You will get a job quick at places that have "Now Hiring" or "Help Wanted" signs, or post on Craigslist or snagajob! Also, stores that are coming soon need an entire staff and will be hiring quick (i'm getting a job at Panera as soon as it opens, but I don't have time to wait, I need money now haha)

It's not really about what you have on your application. I only have "babysitting" on mine.

When you go in to get the application, dress nicely. Wear a blouse and dark jeans. Make sure your hair and makeup is neat. Yes, it's not an interview, but you never know if you will have an immediate interview.

go to an employee and ask for an application. (You do not need any sort of resume if this is your first job).

Fill it out, double check it.

Ask if the hiring manager is available. If not, ask for the general manager. Ask what the name of him/her is.

When they come out (or if you go to them), shake their hand and say " hi [manager name]. I'm [name]. Are you hiring [job position]"

Managers lie alot. They may tell you yes, but they could also be lying to you. (I've had managers tell me they'll call me to set up an interview!!! Or "i'll call you within two days". I have no idea why they do this) Give them your application.

This is the BEST way. The manager will now have a "face" to go along with the application.

Also safest, since your application has all kinds of info (don't trust an employee). If no manager is available, just give it to the employee you got if from

Try looking for jobs on craigslist.com or snagajob.com

  2. Have you tried calling back? Just a quick, polite call to ask if they've had a chance to look at your application. Persistence is good and lets them know that you're interested.

  3. Newspapers

  4. The simple answer is persistence.  You may have to knock on one hundred doors before one is opened for you.  Maybe brush up your resume, make sure your appearnance when you go to interviews is up to standard... things like that.  But just keep at it because something will turn up.  It may take a while but when an opporunity does present itself, the chances are it will be a good one.  Good luck

  5. Keep going back to the same places.  Often, they will take a persistent

job hunter because it shows you are really sincere.

  6. Yuwie is a good place to make money. It's no different than going on myspace, but you get paid. There's no catch, it's just simple and refreshing from all of those surveys that don't actually give you money.
