  1. wrk as an usher or bum boy when plays are rigging going thru lights etc. RING THEM UP

    KNOCK ON THEIR DOORS

its the only way, no need for the first guys answer, cos u hafta find contacts NOW

  2. Get involved by volunteering at school, at college, at your local community theatre.  Once you have a fair idea of what you're doing (and be prepared to spend time sweeping floors and doing the boring jobs, you're not going to walk in and be allowed to use the sound or lighting desk right away!) then start looking for paid work.  If you can get onto the casual tech list at a professional theatre then that's a great way to get your foot in the door - if you do a good job for them they'll keep calling you, you'll gain experience and then full-time work may well come your way.  Alternatively, go to a recognised drama school and do a diploma or degree (but get some experience first), which will give you a head start into the industry.  I kinda went both ways - I was heavily involved in theatre at university (while studying something unrelated!), realised it was what I wanted to do with my life so I went to drama school and now I'm full-time in the industry.

  3. In addition to Anna D's good advice, try contacting theatres when a show is coming to an end.  More often than not, extra help is needed for get-ins and get-outs, so it is a good way of getting to know a few people.  If you are lucky, they might need an extra pair of hands for scene changes on the next show.

  4. Learn the ropes (pun intended) in college.
