Question:

How do I get a job with a cruise line?

Okay, so I've been looking online and I'm still trying to figure out how I would get a job with a cruise line out of Port Canaveral, FL. But here's the thing, I don't want to work onboard, I'm just looking to be a ticket collector or whatever they call them. I can't figure out how to apply just for that position. But just out of curiosity, if you do work onboard, do you have to go on every single cruise, or is it only like 1 or 2 out of the month? And what's the expected pay for either positions? Thanks!

  1. If you work onboard, you live onboard.  You have a room and take every cruise for the term of the contract (6 mo, 9 mo, 1 yr).  Then you have a few months off before you start your second contract.  Also if you want to quit it's not like you have to put in notice and all that.  You just don't sign the contract.

To apply for a job on the cruise line, you go to the site and at the bottom it will say careers.  You click there and submit and application.  The expected pay varies cruise line to cruise line and position to position.  Obviously a person who is multi-lingual is preferred and if you interact with guests you are going to get paid more than the steward or wait staff who get paid primarily on tips.

I would just put for Position applying for:  on shore at Port Canaveral.  Unless they talk you through the positions, that way they could consider you for a position you hadn't thought of but they'd know you are interested in shore not onboard.
