How do I get a new copy of my birth certificate?

I was born in Ipswich, Suffolk UK.

I've been living in the United States since I was like one year old.

Anyway, I recently misplaced my birth certificate in the process of moving and I can't wait for me to randomly find it. I've been looking hard but yeah, no luck...

How do I get a new copy?

  1. I would say go to your county courthouse, but that would be in England.

I would then go to your closest English Embassy and have them help you out.

  2. You might be able to get on at www.vitalcheck.com

That is where I got mine and my daughter's birth certificate.

  3. You would need to contact the GRO here in England, or the register office in Suffolk where your birth was registered. To order your birth certificate from the GRO, you would be advised to get the GRO numbers (Volume and Page) off the birth index on www.ancestry.co.uk. If you would like to email me through my profile I would be quite happy to do the search and find the relevant numbers for you. I would NOT post any information relevant to you on a live forum.

Here is the address for the GRO,

    http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

If you don't have the relevant numbers they will charge you to search for the numbers on your behalf.

    Hope this helps.
