I run a diving club. Springboard not scuba! Have purchased a variety of software that allows downloading onto the laptop through a Dazzle DVC100 but what I really want to be able to do is whilst recording allow divers to see there own dives 2 mins after doing them without stopping the recording!

Any advice welcome, although I have limited technical knowledge

  1. Plug in the USB.

  2. So... what you REALLY need to do is have the recording going to two (or more) places at the same time. While one is recording, the other is available to playback what just happened.

One way would be to replicate the system you have in place... so... 1 camcorder connected to 1 computer times 2.

Or, in case you were not aware, you can actually generate multiple captures... The camcorder media is already capturing - it can continue to do that - just use the AV cable to stream the instant replay stuff. Press record and the camcorder media will pick everything up - but at the same time, using the AV cable connected to the DVC100 then to the computer, you can stream to that computer and use the computer for the instant replay... just don't ever stop the camcorder until the practice or meet is over (or when you need to change tapes or flash memory cards).

You can test this by connecting the camcorder AV to a TV while you are recording to the camcorder media... later, replace the TV with the DVC100 and the computer.

The streamed video is not as good as the video in the camera (because it will be analog) - but it may be good enough...

  3. run the 3 phono (white red & yellow leads) cable into a vhs deck (you may need a scart adaptor) and you can review folks clips whilst the camcorder still records.  You will obviously not be able to continue recording on the vhs when you are playing back, so you may need to pause between divers.

The kind of application is a pro one, it will be difficult to do broadcast style replays without very expensive gear.

Some DVD-RAM recorders allow similtaneous record and replay (I know my Panasonic does) but on the more expensive (but re-usable ram dvds) in fact this may be your solution.
