How do I get a stool sample?

Question

I'm getting over a urinary tract infection and for some reason, I not only need a urine sample - I need a stool sample too. They gave me a little vial that's actually smaller than the urine cup. How am I supposed to get it into the vial without doing something completely unsanitary?

ok, you have to put like a plastic baggy or small trash bag inside the toilet.Then, you have to use the bathroom.After you use the bathroom pick up the baggy of trash bag then (with a disposable spoon or something) take a piece off of it and put it in the cup. Take the rest and get rid of it somehow.

you could go back to the office that gave you the urine container and ask them for a "hat" not the kind that goes on your head, the kind that fits under the toilet seat you would then go in there and use a wooden tongue depressor to get the stool sample and put it in the stool container then simply discard the rest, and throw away the hat.  If they do not have any at the office that gave you the container you can go to any hospital outpatient lab they will have them if they don't they will be able to get it for you.

Your physician or laboratory should be able to provide you with a "hat" as someone else mentioned, or you can use plastic wrap, aluminum foil, or any clean container for the same purpose.  Additionally, you should be able to get wooden sticks from your physician or laboratory to handle your stool with, but I have done it before and it can be tedious.  You can also use your own wooden sticks, but make sure they are clean.

they should of also given you what is called a "hat"  kind  of like a large bowl...it fits on the rim of the toilet so that the stool doesn't go in the toilet...  you need a small spatula, also should have been given to you  ( if not you can use something like it as long as its clean )  you need to sort of scoop out a small piece and put it in.  If it doesn't fit its because you've taken too much.
