I'm in Canada. I came as an immigrant. I have lived here for over four years now. I already have my Permanent Resident Card, my SIN card, my Driver's License and Health Card. My family is in the process of applying for the Canadian Citizenship so it will take us a good one year for the whole process to be done and over with. Currently, I have in Indian passport.

I have some friends in England, etc. and I would love to fly over to visit them.

-I was wondering what Visa would I require to do that?

-And where do I apply to get that Visa?

-How long does it take and how much money?

-I'm a Muslim student currently working in a coop term in Waterloo, ON. Would there be a problem with my religion while travelling and the fact that I'm a student?

-Is there a lot of discrimination against the people of colour in England?

I don't mean to sounds so naive but I just don't know the country and its' culture that well.

Any help would be appreciated. Cheers..!

  1. If all you're planning to do is visit (not get a job/work while you're there), I don't believe you need any paperwork besides a passport.

Cheers - and enjoy your visit!

  2. There is probably a British High Commission in your Capital city.

If you only want a visitors visa you should not have a problem, phone the Brit Hi Comm. ( Immigration or Passport Dept.) and they will tell you costs etc. alternately you may be able to do all that over the internet, or a travel agent may also do it for you if it is just a visitor visa, however you will have to physically send them your passport  to have the visa put in it....and do it BEFORE you book any trip.

Your race and religion should not be a problem as Britain is very multicultural these days....a huge Muslim population in Birmingham for instance, and most of London seems to be run by Indians....in the small businesses anyway. ( of course there are a few racial bigots wherever you go...but hope you don't meet any.)

Britain is a wonderful place full of history and culture........go and enjoy!
