How do I get all my work from my external hard drive back onto my mac laptop?

my laptop crashed and the main thing was replaced, i have all my work on an external hard drive, but how do i put it all back from the external hard drive back onto my laptop?

hi does the external hard drive not have a usb connection? if not purchase a case to put it in, plug it in and mac will recognise it as another drive then simply copy your files over, let me know if you have any probs with this. oh and sites like eBay are great for buying laptop caddies
