Question:

How do I get an MOT'd but untaxed car I've just bought home?

My husband has just bought a car from a private seller, it has a new MOT but no Tax (I think it ran out in May). How do we get it home? We need to get it home tomorrow so I'm not sure we have time to sort out the tax? Can we still insure it with no tax?

  1. You can drive it home just keep proof of receipt beside you coppers are quite lineant if you just brought it and you can insure a car with no tax!

  2. I'm pretty sure you can drive it from A-B but no more. You can do this if it had no MOT and you were taking it to be MOT'd. Probably best to insure it though.

  3. Yes you can still insure it with no tax, also until you get it taxed, keep it on private land, if this is not possible, write a note that you are getting it taxed and put it in your windscreen, but hurry up with the tax.

  4. You could use a tow-truck or similar.

  5. Please don't listen to anyone that tells you that you can run it untaxed: You can't even have it parked on public roads or car parks without tax: You must either tax it(online or at a post office) or tow it.

You can insure it without tax: in fact, you need it insured to be able to tax it.

  6. GO TO INSURANCE AND INSURE, ASK FOR COVER NOTE.  YOU CAN DO THIS WITHOUT THE TAX

TAKE TO NEAREST CAR TAX PLACE ie POST OFFICE

LOG BOOK ALL FILLED OUT TO TRANSFER TO YOU

    INSURANCE COVER NOTE

    MOT

FILL OUT FORM  V10  THE TAX WILL BE BACK DATED TO FIRST OF THIS MONTH

THEY WILL PROBABLY INSIST ON SENDING OFF LOG BOOK

    YOUR LEGAL

  7. you can tax and insure it on the tinternet or just get insurance on net copy t/ print the insurance certificate and go to the post office with all documents tomorrow morning

  8. You can't tax it without insurance. Get insurance on-line. Then drive it home (straight home) You've got one trip. But don't drive it without the insurance.

  9. book your tax online..but get insurance first..if u get stopped they can check online to see that it does cary tax...

  10. You could risk driving it home and you might get away with it

but not recommended.Your best bet is to get it taken to your

house on the back of a recovery vehicle. And yes you can

insure the car with no tax as long as it has an mot and all the relevant paperwork to prove you are the new owner.

  11. Insure on line---print it out.

Tax on line----print it out, and wait for the post to deliver the documentation.

  12. DO AS THEY DO IN AUSTRALIA , RENT A CAR TRAILER AND GET IT TOWED HOME
