How do I get better accostomed to driving on the freeway?

I am afraid to drive on the freeway and the highway, what is the best way for me to get used to this? I have been driving for 3 yrs, but whenever I want to get into the major cities I always take the minor and back roads, but that is now taking a toll on my gas? What should I do?

Drive more on the highway, practice makes perfect!

You have to conquer your fear first. Be confident that you can do it. Other people can do it, why can't you.

The only way your going to become accustomed to driving on freeways is by driving on them

Like anything else, it is all about practice.

Go out with a friend who is a good driver. Ask them to take you on the highway (they do the driving).  Look for a place where you only have to drive a short distance on the highway because the exit comes right after the place where you entered.  ( I still remember my driving instructor found a section of highway for my first few times that was only a few hundred yards.)

Practice makes perfect! Go on the highway, and exit the first or second exit you see. Keep doing and increasing your exit distance till your fine with it!
