I am supposed to get 23 mpg but for the past few weeks I've kept track of how much gas my van is consuming and it comes out to just around 15.5 mpg. With two kids I drive around a lot and need some good tips to increase my mileage before I break the bank.

  1. Artemis,

There are a lot of factors that could affect fuel consumption. You could probably achieve 23mpg if your Honda's still brand new. The best way for you to increase your mileage is to have your engine properly tuned and maintained periodically, check tire pressures, use airconditioning sparingly if possible, remove unnecessary heavy things inside your vehicle and check on your driving habits. These are little things that will help increase mileage for any vehicle. Don't entertain fuel saving gadgets because they're all c**p. Lest if LPG conversion Kits are available from there. That's a sure way to put more of your income in the bank. Whatever you decide on what approach to take, to save fuel, it will be hard to achieve 23mpg again, but if you're able to achieve19 to 20mpg on an Odyssey, that wouldn't be too bad.

  2. remove excess weight (from the trunk, the 3rd row seat if it has one)

    check your tire pressures

never drive with the check engine light on

replace your air filter and oxygen sensors
