Question:

How do I get caked cat litter off my kitten's fur?

I woke up this morning to hear my kitten mewing and crying. I found him in the laundry room [where his litter box is]. He had some how closed the door on himself.. I picked him up and felt something hard on him. I looked at his fur and there is gritty, cakey white stuff all over his fur. I tried using water to loosen it up so I could brush it or pick it out, but it seemed to make it worse. What should I do to get it out? I feel so bad because my poor little guy is crying...

  1. Like they've all said warm water and shampoo they actually came out with kitten shampoo...I got mine at walmart. Actually I just had my two kittens both around 12 weeks old, have the same experience, I just let them sit in my bathroom sink of warm water and kitty shampoo (watched them of course) and after a few minutes the litter came right out.

  2. Hot water, soap (not too hot!) on a rag--washy washy!

  3. Keep using warm water and a soft towel.  I would not use scissors on any cat.  It is SO easy to cut their skin.  If you keep working on it, the water will get it out just go slow and be patient.

Only hand dry.  No blow dryer.  Kittens are very easy to burn or overheat.

    Good luck :)

  4. Clumping cat litter WILL melt when wet... so take a wet wash cloth and hold it on the area and rub.

    Or give him a bath.

otherwise if this doesn't help then you might have to take some little sizzors and give him a trim.

    good luck

  5. Looks like you already got the right answer. Litter will loosen up when wet, so tough it out and give the kitten a bath in warm soapy water (I bathe my 12 week old in the kitchen sink with baby shampoo). The litter will come right off.

  6. You'll have to carefully cut it out with scissors. Don't worry, the hair will grow back.

  7. You may have to cut it out with sissors as water will make it worse as it clumos when wet.  You could comb it out but it may hurt.  Switch to a non-clumping litter.
