What is the best way to get "cat smell" out of my house? I have an indoor cat and I just want my house to smell fresh, not necessarily perfumy as air fresheners make it.

  1. If you don't like those terrible scented air fresheners like me, just go out and get some of the Innofresh activated carbon odor absorbers.   They make an odor absorber just for litter box and it works great and best of all - no fragrance that just masks the odor.  Totally safe and no mess to bother with so I really like it.

I just clip onto litter box and also place a few extra around area and I got rid of the smell completely.    I really recommend this product.  You can get online at www.innofresh.com

  2. Put up a sign that says NO SMELLY CATS ALLOWED near his litter tray. It worked for me. And the cat took extra care with her smelly **** in the litter tray.

  3. If this is just a litter box issue, then frequent cleaning may be all that's necessary.  Plus keeping kitty brushed and even bathed (good luck on that) .  Lots of fresh air coming through the house, baking soda sprinkled on to carpets and vacuumed up a few hourse later, and regular carpet and upholstery/drape cleaning and wall washing twice a year should be enough.

However, if kitty has been spraying around the house, you are in deep trouble.  Cat urine is especially hard to eliminate.  Common cleaners just don't work.

  4. My mother always has had cats and she uses a lot of citrus or orange smells. and the baking soda at the bottom of the litter box

  5. keep the litter box clean remove the cat's excrements soon as possible and keep a box of baking soda and a can of Lysol near by , clean the area with bleach and keep the windows opened as much as you can to let fresh air come in the house. And change the litter once a week ,do not purchase clumping cat litter because cats l**k their paws and the chemicals in that is toxic for them just purchase regular cat litter.

  6. Clumping/scoopable cat litter kept scooped is a good way to get out odor.  Make sure you scoop as often as you can, and dispose of the "scoops" in a trash can outside if possible.

Another way is to fill a spray bottle with 1/2 to 3/4 white vinegar and the rest water and spray your home with this solution.  It will not discolor fabrics and will help neutralize any cat smells from urine.  Vacuum often.  If your cat sleeps on the back of your couch or in a particular chair, put a blanket on the spot for it so that you can wash it regularly.  Upholstery is much harder to clean once it gets smelly, but the vinegar/water solution is a big help.

If your CAT smells, then consider giving it a bath every 3-4 weeks with a shampoo made for cats (not baby or other shampoo as it can make them sick to their stomachs if not rinsed completely out and they l**k to get themselves dry).

Air out your home as frequently as possible and consider replacing anything you can't get the smell out of with your best efforts.

    Good luck

  7. Put baking soda at the bottom of the litter box and a couple of open boxes in the same area. The smell gets into everything so you if you want to keep it out permanently you almost have to shampoo carpets and wash everything all the time. You could also spray some lysol or febreeze on anything cloth to help it to keep smelling fresh.

Its hard with a cat and their litter boxes. Just keep emptying on a regualr basis.
