Well, if it's a few small stains or spots you can use a wet/dry shopvac and a bucket of soapy water.... Just use a small scrub brush and soapy water.... Suck up the water with the wet/dry vac- Just remember to take out the paper filter BEFORE using it to extract water!  

Rinse and repeat with clean water... May take several applications....

If it's the whole room/carpet.... Then I would consider having the rugs professionally cleaned. OR renting a RUG DOCTOR carpet cleaner.....

*For a quick fix- you can sprinkle the carpet liberally with baking soda and leave on overnight.... Vacuum up the next day.... It will help with the smell....

You could get a good carpet shampoo and give it wash over with that, if you have a wash and dry cleaner use that, or give it a steam clean, well whatever way you do it, once you have and it is dry, then put down some shake-e-vac and give it a good hover over. Another way is to sprinkle over some very strong disinfectant leave it for a while then vacuum off. Hopefully one of these things will do the trick.
