  1. The best way is to run about 2-3 miles, then when you run the mile it will be easier, and you can run it faster

  2. You are going to need to do more than just have a good race.  Going from a late 6 to a 5 minute mile is a substantial improvement, but it is possible.  To make that big of a jump you will need to increase your fitness.  If you are at high 6's, assume 6:40, you will have to drop off 25 seconds per lap!  You will have to train quite a bit more.  Since you are in season now, I would recommend running a few extra miles after practice if you feel up to it.  I have had success with this in the past.

Although I was struggling to make it through all the practices and increased mileage, my body really adapted and I dropped a significant amount of time.

    Best of Luck

  3. Pfft...YOu're gonna have to go a full minute down to get to a sub 6..YOu shouldn't be thinking about a 5:00 right now.

  4. best way is to pace the first two laps at about 75% and pick it up on the third to 80% and on the final lap, according to how you feel, take it 90% with 100% last 150 meters! and that should do it!
