Okay, I am sixteen and will be turning 17, and graduating in November. (I go to high school online.) Since I am a minor joining the military, am I automatically emancipated when I leave for Basic Training, or do I still have to go to court to get the papers after I am stationed somewhere?

  1. State specific; in most your military ID is proof of status and qualfies you as emancipated

  2. Your daddy will be "Uncle Sam".

  3. You must have a parent's consent to join the military at 17.  However, after you join the military you will be considered emancipated. This is because the government is considered to now exercise the type of control a parent might otherwise have.  So, while you can join the military at 17, and would be considered emancipated after joining, you must still have a parent's consent to join the military
