I keep hearing about how important it is to get fitted for a driver so that you are using the correct shaft for your swing. How do I do that and how much can I expect to pay for that?

  1. Whether you go to a good sportings goods store, a pro shop or a full line golf store chances are there is someone in attendance who understands the importance of fitting. More than likely there is no charge for the fitting service if the club is purchased at the site. Don't expect to get the service and all the necessary information , then go elsewhere to purchase your club. That is not only gauch, but a sign of no responsibility or character.

  2. What you need to do is go to a pro shop and ask to get fitted for a driver and it will probably cost about $100.

  3. I too believe it is very important.  Prices will vary and so will results.  The cost is often waived if you purchase a drive at the shop within a reasonable time.  To get the best results go to a larger shop or one who specializes in club fitting.  The larger shops are more likely to be able to afford to hire a real club fitting specialist. You want them to have a launch monitor as well.  That will allow the staff to get exact feedback on how you hit the ball with each club.  It will measure club head speed, ball velocity, trajectory, spin, and estimate distance.  You will be able to choose the club that provides the best combination of accuracy, distance, and consistency.  You cannot tell all of that simply by hitting into a net.

  4. I had this process done @ Golf Galaxy & it was $29.99.Well worth every penny. They looked @ club head speed, ball speed, launch angle, carry & roll out, and spin rate. I thought my club head speed was around 102 or so & that I needed a stiff flex...turns out I was around 95 and needed a regular flex in a specialized shaft as that mazimized all of the key elements of my specs. The shaft of a your driver is like the engine in a car.....if you put a VW motor in a Ferrari, it will not run like it was intended to. Good luck!
