I live in Toronto and I'm trying to avoid having to spend 4 years at Seneca since I've already done a bachelor in commerce and have been working for almost 3 years now...

  1. To start you need a Private pilots licence , go to Oshawa,Markham or Brampton  airports whichever is the closest to you  .A lot less expensive that anything in Toronto.About $5000 to get to this stage. To get to Commercial $50,000 plus. A lot of money to think about.

  2. What is Seneca?  I think the quickest way is one of the multi-engine schools like ATP's.  They have locations all over.  Call 1-800 ALL ATPS for information.  If you have a BS degree, that helps a lot.  Hiring is in a boom right now, at least at the lower levels.  It's a good time to learn to fly for a living.

  3. Well I think you meen Airline pilot , well first you must get a private pilots license (fly for yourslef) then you need a Instument rating(allows you to fly in bad weather) then you get a commercial license with 250 hours. there are plenty of schools it doesnt really matter what school it is. Find a part 141 FAA school in the USA i think you will get done with it faster here and It might cost less. Its good you have a degree because that stands out during hiring.

  4. Get your private license first.  See if you like flying.  It will be a significant investment of time and money.  You can get a private for about $5000 or so.  If you are still enthusiastic, I recommend a school such as ATP (I went there myself, excellent experience).  ATP will charge you about $40 grand to get you from private through commercial, with multi engine time which is necessary for the airlines.  Once you have about 5-700 hours of total flight time, you can apply at a regional airline like Republic or Comair.  Good luck.

  5. If you have a pocket full of money you could do it in less than a year at any number of flight schools. However, if you have that kind of money to invest (or borrow) and you have a fairly decent job already, I recommend that you keep working and BUY your own plane, preferrably one with IFR capability. Hire a private instructor, and fly as much as you can. When it comes time to do the "high performance" and multi-engine training, then rent.  This is what I did and it worked out really well for me. In fact, the place I bought the plane from threw in a private and instrument rating with the deal (I already had a glider license). I also got my CFI and CFII in my own plane. The only flight time where I rented any flight school planes was 10 hours in a Turbo Arrow for the commercial checkride and 20 hours in a Piper Seminole for the commercial multi checkride. Over the long run, I saved quite a bit of money, learned a lot about maintaining an airplane, plus I had a lot of fun, and the freedom to fly when and where I wanted to, including several trans-continental flights. That's valuable experience you'll never get at a traditional flight school. After about 300 hours in slightly less than two years I sold the plane when I got a CFI job. I actually made some money on my plane, further reducing my overall costs, but in hindsight I should have hung onto it since prices have continued to go up on used airplanes.

This question has been asked and answered here literally hundreds, if not thousands, of time.  Notice the window above labeled "search for questions:"  Type in "how to become an airline pilot" and click the Search button.  You will be rewarded with a large number of answers similar to what you will get here.

The problem is that they will all be from Yahoos, which means they may or may not be related to reality.

The best way is to find the nearest airport where there is a flight school, and go there.  Ask to speak to a flight instructor.  Tell that person what you want to accomplish, and you will receive accurate ans sensible information.

That is the right way to find out--not by asking here.
