Question:

How do I get from Lubeck to Berlin using public transport?

I am staying in a place near Lubeck called Scharbeutz. I need to get from there to Berlin. I'd like to get the train - is there a direct route or do I need to change? If I need to change, where would I change? Any idea how long it takes? How much should I expect to pay?

My internet access at home is playing up, so I know this is cheeky but please if you can give me an actual answer rather than a link (or as well as) that would be brilliant. I'm flying out from London to Germany very early tomorrow morning and won't have internet access while I'm in Germany so swift help would be very much appreciated.

I would be travelling on Sunday evening or Monday morning (I can do either just as easily).

Thank you very much for any help!

  1. Sunday evening (no point wasting time not going to Berlin) ;-)

    from Scharbeutz 17:36

    to Lübeck 17:55 from 18:20

    to Büchen 18:58 from 19:45

    to Berlin Hbf 21:26

So, 2 changes, overall takes you almost 4h.

    Have fun!

  2. From S to the Berlin main train station, you will need to change trains twice - in Luebeck and in Hamburg.  You might be better off just starting from Luebeck so you don't have to make that change.  The trip will last approx. 3 hours and cost between 50 and 75 euros, depending on when you depart and the type of trains that particular schedule uses.

By starting from Luebeck, you cut 30 minutes off your train travel time.  There is no direct train from L to B.

When you purchase your ticket, be sure to ask for the full schedule.  It will tell you which track you arrive at and which track your next train leaves from.  (ooo poor English!)  If you purchase your ticket from a machine, you can find the same train again and print out an itinerary.

    Good luck.

  3. Hi there, there are 3 legs to your train journey, the first from Scharbeutz to Lübeck (20 minutes), the second from Lübeck to Hamburg (40 minutes) and the big one from Hamburg to Berlin (around 1 hour 40 minutes). Your last train on Sunday evening will leave at 20:36 from Scharbeutz connecting at 21:05 in Lübeck and 22:08 in Hamburg (finally ariving at 23:44 in Berlin). The first one on Monday morning will leave at 5:32 connecting at 6:04 and 7:07 respectively. These will run hourly throughout the day with departure times always roughly at :32 past the hour from Scharbeutz, connecting :05 past the hour in Lübeck and :08 past the hour in Hamburg.

So the total journey time will be just over 3 hours. The regular fare on this trip is € 72,- for info.

Hope you get there in the end, have a good stay in good old Germany!
