How do I get from Rome Ciampino Airport to Sorrento by bus/train?

Do I need to pre-book rail tickets? I arrive next Wednesday at 10.30 am.

You won't need to pre-book tickets.

You take the shuttle bus from Ciampino airport to Ciampino station and catch a train to Roma Termini station. The shuttle bus schedule is here: http://www.adr.it/content.asp?Subc=2020&... There is also a bus from the airport to Roma Termini. When you're at Roma Termini, you catch the train to Naples. When you arrive in Naples change to a Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento. Circumvesuviana is a separate train system from the Italian national trains, but they leave from another part of the same station in Naples. You can find schedules here: http://www.vesuviana.it/ select NAPOLI - GARIBALDI (STAZIONE CENTRALE F.S.) as the starting point and Sorrento as the destination.

FYI: Smoking on the trains is pretty much a thing of the past here. It's been illegal for the past few years, and almost everyone respects the ban. The Eurostars are all reserved seats, you will be guaranteed of a place to sit on the high speed trains. You are obligated to validate your ticket before you get on the train. If you don't the fine is large.

Take the train, and no, you can purchase at the window or at the computer. Sometimes they are packed and you may not be able to get a seat. Look for the enclosed seating area...much more private and seats 6 people. You will see people smoking and smoking in the open areas. If anything, just wait till the next train.

Tip: if your ticket doesnt get punched, you can always return it at any window and get your money back.
